The Ruins
The Mayans were spread all across the Yucatan and down into Belize, Guatemala and beyond. They left behind thousands of small and large structures on the beaches and in the jungles. The Ruins of the majestic Mayan city of Tulum are located on a promontory, overlooking the Caribbean Sea like a balcony in the state of Quintana Roo, in the Riviera Maya.
The Castle
The Castle of Tulum appears in any photo that is seen on the Mayan ruins of Mexico. The imposing building stands on the promontory of the cliff with two construction stages, consisting of several shrines on the sides of the access stairs. The lintel that rests on two columns where the figure of a snake is carved stands out.
The Palace
Its size and housing distribution indicates that it housed a large number of nobles and leaders of Tulum. The decoration of the Palace shows carvings of gods such as Kukulcan, with an architectural style known as Puuc, and that we often find in Yucatan.
Temple of the
descending god
It is one of the most beautiful in Tulum. Neither the walls nor the door adjust to the vertical, which is not a result of the passage of time, since that is how it was originally built.
It was erected on top of another temple that was filled in to serve as a base. In the niche located in the upper part of the door stands out a sculpture that presents a character descending from the sky; he has wings, a headdress and holds an object in his hands.

Temple of the paintings
It is the one that preserves the most decorative elements in Tulum. It has two levels; the lower one consists of two temples, one inside the other, in which the decoration is concentrated.
The facade of the inner temple is decorated with mural painting, and the exterior with stucco figures in relief: masks in the corners, sculptures in three niches of the facade -the one in the center is a representation of a descending god- and human figures between ties in the frieze.
